For hostels in Central America or any part of the world, sometimes being part of Tripadvisor is very beneficial, receiving Tripadvisor reviews like this one (to a hotel in Costa Rica) and sometimes not so good. But always good for us the travelers. Reviews as well as hostels can range from the best to the worst any hostel in Central America (Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala) would like to be reviewed because sometimes passengers get very vocal about their experience in a hostel.
My advice is to read the worst as the best reviews so you don't risk the vibe of your trip. Sometimes choosing a hostel is not very easy when they are so many hostels options to choose from.
The best you can do is read the reviews and concentrate on the worst ones. The good ones are not the best to tell you actually what the place is about. So go directly and check the bad reviews of the hostel or hotel you'd like to stay in.
